A few thoughts today on my alter-ego cosplay identity, Captain Janeway. I appear as her often at SF conferences, comic-cons, young writers' events, Halloween parties, even home movies. Of course I like her stories on Voyager; it was a natural progression to consider how I might sew a version of her uniform jacket, and once I put it on, I began to notice that "acting the Captain" was so Read more of this blog post »

“I am not a fate worse than death, dammit!”
Lois McMaster Bujold, Captain Vorpatril's Alliance

“This sentence has five words. Here are five more words. Five-word sentences are fine. But several together become monotonous. Listen to what is happening. The writing is getting boring. The sound of it drones. It’s like a stuck record. The ear demands some variety. Now listen. I vary the sentence length, and I create music. Music. The writing sings. It has a pleasant rhythm, a lilt, a harmony. I use short sentences. And I use sentences of medium length. And sometimes, when I am certain the reader is rested, I will engage him with a sentence of considerable length, a sentence that burns with energy and builds with all the impetus of a crescendo, the roll of the drums, the crash of the cymbals–sounds that say listen to this, it is important.”
Gary Provost

“End with an image and don't explain.”
Stanley Kunitz, The Collected Poems

“Follies and nonsense, whims and inconsistencies do divert me, I own, and I laugh at them whenever I can.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Grace Bridges Hi Tina! Thank you! Hey if you want an electronic review copy I'd be happy to send you one :) just message me your email address and I'll get one on the way. Any particular file format?

message 4: by Tina

Tina Peterson Hi! thanks for friending me back. I didn't realize you were an author when I requested friendship - but I can see already that I'm going to have to read Faith Awakened. If you'd ever like a review done for one of your books on my Family Literacy blog I'd love to help you out. Keep up the good work and I look forward to getting to know you better. =D Tina "The Book Lady"

Donald Parker Sheesh. When I read the instructions, I realized the title of your book had to contain two words. When I went back to your website I found another 2007 publication and voila - I was successful! I pray your writing is going well!!
Merry Christmas
Don
