2/29/16
Hi! I’m TL Brown, writer of the OCW series and founder of the writing group Enigma, writing this blog during “The Road to Wrestlemania,” in an effort to make some scars.
Why scars? Because tattoos are earned and wounds just heal.
As I’m writing this now, it is before Raw on Monday (2/29/16) and I’m reflecting on everything I’ve seen on WWE Programming. To me wrestling is like religion, but Wrestlemania is – and should be – the ultimate game changer. Shane McMahon is that game changer.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that HHH and Stephanie have had more influence in the company. There are way better talents on the WWE Roster now and everything feels so much more genuine than it did five years ago. However, putting Shane McMahon and some blood into the story like they did? THAT is a game changer.
Do I care about Reigns vs. Triple H? NO!! It’s not Reigns’s fault, nor is it Triple H’s, fact is: it was so predictable and obvious that I’m waiting patiently for it to end. So with Shane McMahon showing up, I am happy to say that the main event of the biggest event in wrestling may have been saved.
Think about it, how unpredictable has the event become with Shane vs. Undertaker put on the card? Some could say that Ambrose vs. Lesner is a game changer, but not on the same level as Shane vs. Taker. In this match, the people that love this industry like I do are at a standstill.
Shane wins: We get Shane in control of RAW!! Note: He gets Raw, the show, at his disposal. What does that mean? That means we could be getting the brand split up again and higher quality in both events and characters. Think about it, to see certain names we would need to see certain events and those same names would be less likely to get hurt or even tired due to the schedule.
Remember when guys were running to AAA, TNA and elsewhere? What did they all seem to say? They wanted a lighter work schedule. The part-timers are all proven names that could easily retire, sign a legends deal and even work elsewhere. They stay with WWE due to the lighter work schedule. So think how much better a work environment it will be overall if we have everyone not working as hard to deliver the same amount of quality. Pretty good, right?
However…
Undertaker wins: Undertaker continues to have the best Wrestlemania record in WWE history. We get our usual 5-star match with Undertaker wowing us on a level Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and John Cena could only dream about.
To get this change, for the better, are we willing to give up on the Deadman? Are we saying that we want the Undertaker to lose to, of all people and at Wrestlemania, Shane McMahon? That’s the question we all need to ask: How badly do we want this company to change? More importantly, this is what the main event of Wrestlemania should be about.
Think about that, I’m TL.
