Noah, I completely agree about the importance of reviews! I leave reviews all the time for stuff, and I take what reviewers say about my work to heart and use it to make the next book better! Reviews are our training grounds as artists, and are the public's opportunity to shape the way art is made!

Absolutely, Heidi. They're truly our lifeblood. You could write the greatest book of all time, sure, but it doesn't matter one bit whatsoever if you only have a measly couple of reviews on your page. People are statistically judgmental. If your book is as barren as Myspace, they'll just assume you suck in general and they'll move on to the next. Readers won't even open up a preview to a novel if they don't see much user activity. In their eyes, those numbers and those stars MATTER! It's their time and money that they are parting with to delve into your work. It's an insane tango.
Ha, thanks! It just came to me randomly. Maybe I should put that in one of my upcoming novels. That will be the line that takes me to the TIPPY TOP OF FAME! Right?
You may be overwhelmed (in a good way) by No Net if you like that sliver! There's a plethora of quotable-in-training passages throughout.
Plus if your book is on Amazon.com, reviews are needed for a variety of Amazon features and visibility options. From author Ned Hayes post at http://ned.booklikes.com/post/1343955... :
