The Joy of Creation: You Aren't Always in Control
The story line for my new novel, Love With An Imperfect Cowboy which will be out in April is as follows:
She's a runaway bride. He's a decorated rancher/soldier with a tragic past. Who knew seeking refuge in the wrong bar after getting lost in a Texas storm could be so dangerous...or so sexy?
During the course of writing the Lone Star Dynasty series, I received many questions, the most common being: Where do you get your ideas?
A question that's not always easy to answer. Over the course of my writing career, I've come to discover that stories are like quilts. Many different pieces come together in their own way creating a new design.
Friends, family, and personal experiences all contributed to this tale. As most children do, I grew up playing cowboys and Indians with my little brother, so my infatuation with handsome cowboys began at a young age. My husband is a wounded veteran who carries with him stories of lives lost and comrades saved. A dear friend has a son who was a colonel in the army and fought in the Middle East. They were kind enough to share their tales of living in a war zone. The wild setting of Lonesome, Texas was drawn off my experiences visiting and staying with friends who own and operate working ranches. A close girl friend of mine works as an anesthesiologist and is happily married to a cowboy. Two of my first cousins live on ranches with horses and shared highly amusing stories of their big, four-legged darlings and the mischief they get up to.
About a year ago, I decided I wanted to write a short story for Christmas. But when I began writing, the characters and their stories became increasingly complicated. When I couldn't seem to stop writing, I decided that maybe I'd stumbled on a story that was never destined to be short and was writing a novel. Christmas came and went, and I was still writing. My brain a whirl, I wrote two-thirds of the next book of the series before finishing Love With An Imperfect Cowboy. As a result, the stories have become so tightly linked and characters so precious that this series has fallen into place.
I am a sucker for heroes with wounded hearts. What's more wonderful than finding someone who makes you feel you're the best person you can be or who heals you? Or who makes you face your demons only to realize how strong you really are? Or who makes you feel they see you as a very special person when no one else does?
Life is tough with everybody fighting a hard battle. It is the lucky few who finds a partner who loves you, broken bits and all.
Hannah Lewis and Liam Stark pulled me into their story and refused to let me go. Love With An Imperfect Cowboy is the first book in my new Lone Star Dynasty series. Upcoming releases will feature Hannah's twin, Nell, who betrayed Hannah for the sake of love and another about Liam's first cousin, Gabe Stark and his ruthless quest to conquer all. Finally, the story of Gabe's brother, Jack Stark, who was swept away as a small boy in a terrible flood, will finally be told. These characters are dear to me and I share them with the hope that my readers will love these characters and stories as much as I do.

Romance in Texas
I like to write about how Texas inspires romance in my blog--which I have only recently started.
