An excerpt from our forthcoming book/3

In anticipation of the relase of our forthcoming book 'We Are Human Angels, We Inspire Change' we're sharing an excerpt a day. Today's is from Chapter 1.2, Judgment.
***
(...) The ego manifests itself when we separate ourselves from what happens in our lives and when we unweave ourselves from our original unity with life in its entirety. The ego is born from judgment. When we begin to judge the different aspects of our existence, glorifying some and despising others, this is the moment in which we shift from the heart to the mind and our minds begin to take control of our lives. The mind, with the purpose of controlling the heart, organizes itself through judgments and thoughts, attempting to imprison and redirect the natural, free stream of our existence and emotions. This is the moment in which Oneness disappears and ego appears. This is also the moment in which our suffering begins.

The ego makes us forget that life is love in every facet and tries to exert its rational control over our lives. Love stops flowing freely, stops being unconditional, boundless, and unreserved. Life stops being a journey through creativity, imagination, fantasy, play, and discovery. It becomes the painful relinquishment of all of our dreams. The ego knows how to build fences and set boundaries of all sorts: self-limitation is the essence of our individuality. When, identifying with the ego, we separate ourselves from the Oneness, we experience duality and suffering. When, however, we recognize ourselves as an indivisible part of the Oneness, we are filled by joy and bliss.

Overcoming the ego is removing the root cause. Feelings of pain, worry, shame, or a sense of guilt (the infinite ego symptoms) are a consequence of a single matrix: the illusion of duality that is judgment. Our thoughts themselves bring judgment and duality: each concept is understood by our minds only when compared to their opposite. The meaning of “health”, for example, can be understood only if compared to that of “disease.” The meaning of “justice” can only be understood when compared to that of “injustice.” In the Oneness, everything simply Is. Light is not the opposite of darkness: light simply Is. Love is not the opposite of hate: love simply Is. Life is not the opposite of death: life simply Is. Unity is not the opposite of duality: Unity simply Is. We cannot embrace the Oneness, the Absolute, through the mind. We only have a relative understanding: everything we can know through the mind is only the illusion of separation. The Oneness cannot be separated into mental categories because this necessarily involves duality and judgment: we can only experience it and demonstrate it through the evidence of our behavior.

When we judge ourselves and others, we forget that we are an indivisible part of the Oneness, and so we suffer continuously because of the illusion of separation. When judgment separates us from the Oneness, only total and unconditional acceptance (of ourselves and others) can reunite us with the Oneness, becoming part of the flow of life and the Uni-versal plan of love. Without judgment, the ego dies and takes with it all the burden of suffering that weighs on our lives. So we begin to love ourselves and others unconditionally, without judgment.
At this point, there is cause for reflection and questions that have spontaneously arisen. Is the idea of unconditionally loving everyone, including violent and cruel people, something that we would consider rationally unacceptable? “I can feel love and compassion for the victim of violence or abuse, but I cannot feel the same for the perpetrator.” “Should not those who commit a heinous crime be judged and condemned?” (In this case please consider that here we are not referring to what happens inside physical courts of justice, but to what happens within our hearts).
