Jose Dos Santos the CEO of South Africa’s third largest mobile network Cell C was blitzed on social media for his remarks about women in a recent interview.
Mr. Santos shared some great news: the company’s representation of women has increased from around 40% to over 60% since he joined the company in 2012, and that some of the mobile network’s top engineers are women. He also said he would ultimately want to see a woman CEO taking over from him.
The problem? Two issues came up during the interview. First, Mr. Santos observed that women have a BITCH-SWITCH and said: “boy, if you see two women fighting, it’s worse than two men having an argument.”
Secondly, Cell C is a sponsor of the Miss South Africa contest and offers participants a 12-month internship at the company. He praised the influence that beautiful women have on men and concluded: “We have good-looking women, we have clever women, we have smart women and that’s created a different environment.”
Then he came under fire on social media for objectifying women and being a superficial, chauvinistic jackass.
I say: SHUT UP!!!!!
Here is a guy, who believes in women empowerment, hires women for leadership roles, under his management the representation of women in the company increased by 20%, and he thinks women are awesome!
YES, we have a BITCH-SWITCH, just like men, by the way. Bitch switch is not gender biased. Plus, the effect of beautiful women on men is exactly the same as the effect of attractive men on women. We are human and we respond as humans whether we are women or men.
Social media lash out at Mr. Santos over those comments is totally undeserved and unnecessary.
Political correctness or free speech should not be used as an excuse for bullying.
Therefore, always look for the context, read more than 140 characters on Twitter, and most importantly NEVER prefer superficiality over profoundness.
