This is so true of what you write, Monika. Everyone is part of the chain of the human race. But people that have lost their way, are sometimes not treated as human, especially the homeless who are out there. The ones who I have troubles with are the ones who hold out signs, and want money for food, and you know they will use the money for booze. There is a halfway house near me, and this mentally ill man will beg for money in town, and go and use the money for booze. That is what they are teaching these people who are supposed to be out in the workforce soon?

I actually work with seriously mentally ill adults. Sadly to say, so many of the homeless, i think it is ninety percent, are also suffering mental illness. A lot of mine are recovering addicts of one sort or another, lots of times they use the booze and drugs to escape the demons in their minds. There are some places for the mentally ill that are so atrocious and with the most ridiculous staff who don't really care what happens to their patients. The home i work in is a beautiful mansion( the man whom created our organization designed it and got funding to make a group home that he felt all of the mentally ill should have)Some of our staff are idiots, most are wonderful. We would never allow something like that to happen. I have watched a patient wandering and crossing the street in a dangerous way and have called the group home to tell someone to go get them immediately and many times I have stopped myself to pick them up. But from what I see of some other facilities, i could cry. There are places that are supposed to be run just like ours and yet i hear from people how drugs are sold right out of the group homes or bought down the street and no one does a damn thing. It's disgusting. There are times I feel iffy about giving someone money for the same reason. So if they say they need food I go get a bag of groceries and bring them that. Maybe they will at least eat some.
I didn't mean to ramble. It's just that I know it can be done better in all places and when it isn't, it infuriates me.
Well, since we live right in the back of this halfway house, and although the community fought not to have this in our back yard so to speak, the people who funded this thought that we should "educate" ourselves on this. There have been times when there has been shouting and swearing coming from this residence. So we are unable to do anything about it, even though they say there are two nurses on staff, and 180 patients, I believe. This is just what I have seen.
