Brock Recital Hall | Map & Directions

Music by Enescu, Porumbescu, Nottara, Lazarescou, Cojocaru, Gershwin, Bernstein, Beach, Bolcolm, O'Connor and poetry readings by Alina Stefanescu Coryell

The repertoire chosen for the concert mirrors in many ways the personal journeys of those who will be performing the program, all Romanian-born artists who are now calling US their home. From well known to less familiar selections to two world-premieres to beautiful poetry, the program embraces both melancholic and hopeful tones, and it aims to give a taste of Romanian and American music that is truly meaningful to the performers while highlighting the intersections between the two cultures. "Rhapsody for Maria," a work composed by Romanian-American composer Dan Lazarescou, brings the program together because it unites Romanian folk tunes and rhythms with a motive from Leonard Bernstein's "Maria".
