Write What You Know – Two Perfect Examples MC/PG13

Hi, all,

A series of circumstances have enlightened me to what “write what you know” means. I know hospitals. That’s why, I guess, the characters in my novels pass through one at some time or another.

Write What You Know – Two Perfect Examples

Hospital Scenes from sweet reads Nicked Hearts and Louisiana Hot Sauce

Nicked Hearts (2011)
Genre: MC/PG13
Count: 34,560
Price: $3.99

Blurb:
Valentine’s Day surgery trussed up like a Thanksgiving turkey? OVER HER DEAD BODY!

Rambunctious runaway K.C. Montreaux—thirtyish and coddled—crashes the men’s room at Bush Intercontinental and straight into Nick Hart. His clear eyes x-ray through her while she hovers with a facetious grin on a lovely caramel face. A ruckus launches her to an empty stall and forces him into defense mode. Drafted actions cloak Nick’s deceit—from the mainland to Maui—as he helps outwit her pursuer.

Will K.C. snuff out their combustible emotions like hushed Haleakala or forgive Nick’s misguided lies?

Dare his nicked heart dream?

Hospital Scene:
She drifted between dimensions sometimes cognizant of the horrific gripping pain whenever her chest rose to allow a breath. Her brain registered at certain times, for short periods, until the voices ghosted in and shut it down again. That was when the fog weighed its heaviest closing her off in blackness so dark she lost her way. One thing about that, though. K.C. wasn’t afraid of the dark, especially when she held on to the warm pressure planted in her palm.

Sleep slowly shed its control forcing her unseeing eyes open and issuing out a big gasp as she struggled to catch a breath.

“Shh. It’s natural. You’re trying to breathe on your own.” The voice in her head soothed. The same dominating intonations seeped into her world while she was under heavy sedation. K.C. tried to speak. Again, the intervention of the affectionate warmth to her palm coupled with the firm finger drizzling moisture over her filmy lips. “Hold on. They’ll remove the breathing tube.”

Her hazy outlook hid her sterile environment and those bustling nearby attending to her every need. The voice whispering sweet nothings sounded vaguely familiar. Calming. Caring. Loving. It instilled the feeling of being swaddled in a cocoon of safety restricting the world’s hurts from entering. Her psyche dwelled in the safe haven her caregiver strived to maintain for her recuperation.

Louisiana Hot Sauce (2010)
Genre: MC/PG13
Count: 101,210
Price: $5.99

Blurb:
Reclusive Mesha Rayburn's safe haven disintegrated when athletic Jack Connolly raced into her life. He was like an uninvited guest to her pity party. Yet, his brashness stoked her dormant emotions and injected spunk into her veins with every bated word. And—calling the cinnamon-skinned Black woman "biggety" didn't help matters.

Mechanic Jack Connolly thought the trip down South to patch up and retrieve the bullet-ridden helicopter would be a pain. He never imagined the rhetoric becoming reality. But, thanks to Mesha's panicked outcry, it had. The pain radiating in his palm bothered him less than the one in his rear. Bold and beautiful, he had to know why she hid out in the boonies. As her transient tenant, he intended to find out at the risk of feeling the sting of her Louisiana Hot Sauce temper.

Hospital Scene:
Within minutes of arriving at the emergency entrance, a circle of attendants surrounded them. Some examined his gashed hand. One collected pertinent information regarding insurance that forced him to contort to get his wallet from his jean pocket. All this happened while she and Mya hovered quietly nearby. However, she was surprised when he thrust the billfold into her hand as they whisked him through the waiting room and out of her sight behind closed doors.

The door leading from the emergency room whooshed open, permitting the orderly to wheel Jack out as a nurse coached him on having his wound examined and bandage changed in two days. Mesha guessed he searched the room for her, knowing his failure since she sat in a cubbyhole behind him. He fell back in a dejected slump, which lifted her brows in surprise. Her vantage point allowed her to see the humongous bandage covering a hand that was now useless to him. Sympathy welled inside, prompting her to collect all that was important to her and stroll over next to him.

“Ready?” she inquired. She could not tell who was most shocked at seeing her there—Jack, whose head snapped up to peer at her, his eyes beaming thank you, the nurse who thrust a prescription into his good hand, or the man manipulating the chair. “I’ll get the car while you get him to the entrance. Thanks.”

Mesha was gone before either found their tongues.
