Scams seems like they're a daily fixture. A "kid" tries to sell me a phony magazine subscription (it's all done online now, dummy) for his class trip to Paris. A service technician wants to replace my entire gas furnace due to its "cracked heat exchangers." A not-so-sneaky restaurant worker tries to steal my credit card number.
Who needs to do research for writing crime fiction plots? Suburban life is rife with its small crimes and misdemeanors. You'd better stay on your toes, or you'll lose your shirt.
