Tired of those who bash millennials for not reading
I've read many posts and articles complaining that the literacy rate for millennials is declining. That they don't bother buying books. In my experience, this just isn't true. This generation consumes literature and writes everything from travelogues to blogs to very impassioned posts on everything from facebook to LinkedIn to twitter using their personal devices. They read books on phones, laptops and ebook readers. They listen to audiobooks on commutes, vacations, and while cooking and doing errands. This generation is on the go and they fit in what's important on their phone. They are adaptable, articulate, passionate and active. I feel excited when I speak to them at Universities, book signings and in personal conversations in my role as mentor and friend. This generation grew up consuming large volumes of Harry Potter and has high expectations from poetry to prose. They understand character arcs, plot machination and have high expectations. They consume poetry from Instagram, rap music, and ebooks. They are zealous about life and planned from grade school how to contribute to it. They live fast and furiously attempt to make everyday count globally. I rest easily at night after encountering a group of students their age ready to take on the world joyfully.

This was a very exciting and busy week; my sweet son Dashiel Rowland graduated from high school with honours. He is off to Loyola University in New Orleans in the fall. I finished the recording, sound engineering and digital mastering of my audiobook thanks to the efforts of Cameron Holloway and Christian Corpora. Cameron recorded my narration in my basement with pillows and blankets as sound proofing. He did an amazing job as a sound engineer and editor. This weekend my friends drove in and flew in from across the country for my book signing at Barnes and Nobel. I am so grateful for such an amazing turnout from friends and from those regulars at Barnes & Nobel Fairlawn. Jennifer Merideth and her skillful staff made the event such a fun experience. Hoping all of you have a lovely start to summer. Hoping all your stories have humour and kindness. Thanks for reading,
