My post
Beautiful People,
An International Business Times’ article, To Get Driver’s Licenses for Undocumented Immigrants, Activists Plan Rally in Rhode Island, has reminded me yet again the damage of not having an immigration reform that will establish undocumented immigrants’ status.
Last year, Sen. Frank A. Ciccone III has submitted a bill that would enable Rhode Island’s DMV to issue driving permits to immigrants “unable to establish lawful presence in the United States.” However, the bill died when state House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello said he wouldn’t let a vote happen before the session's end in June.
To this point, twelve states understood it was a good idea providing undocumented immigrants a driving license because they figured immigration status has NOTHING TO DO WITH PRINCIPLE AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH SAFELY.
Driving license for undocumented immigrants does not establish immigration status. It is not a Naturalization Certificate. It doesn’t give the right to vote or enjoy social benefits.
The reason to provide driving license to undocumented people is having trained, tested and insured drivers who share the roads with everyone else.
Why would anyone oppose such a cause?
Here are the States who care about their citizens’ road safety- California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
XO,
Sharon
