My post

Beautiful People,

You know how sometimes you read the findings of a study and think “Why invest in a research when I could have told you that?”

So when I read Quartz article, Harvard Researchers Have Concluded That Not All Women Should “Lean In” For Salary Negotiations, I didn't only say: “I could have told you that,” but I also challenge Harvard researchers to take their study to the next level and investigate if ALL women should generality lean in for everything.

Harvard researchers found that “women should not “lean in” every time, that women do better when they pick and choose the opportunities to negotiate. This contrasts with the commonly held belief that women should “lean in” or negotiate more.”

To save Harvard's time and money, which they can use to research, for example, why women buy self-help books instead of following their intuition and common sense, I’ll suggest my findings to the challenge: NOT ALL WOMEN SHOULD “LEAN IN” FOR EVERYTHING.

My experience in both business and life has taught me that women will be more likely to succeed if they choose their own path than women who feel pressured to turn into something they’re not, or to pursue other women’s dreams.

Chapter 10: Outsmarting Feminism in my book The Opposite of Comfortable offers a new viewpoint on womanhood in the 21st century.

Today, many women know exactly what is needed to climb the ladder, but they choose not to climb it at all, or climb it on their own terms, or in their own time. Women are aware of the wage gap, gender disparity in leadership, and overall workplace bias.

Some women are willing to fight it, others are choosing to tolerate it. Each group has its own reasons. But both groups should not be criticized for their choices or forced to react against their nature.

Every woman faces different challenges, has a unique background and abilities to access education, and opportunities to open otherwise closed doors. Therefore, it is important women’s choices be respected.

“LEANING IN” CAN BE TOTALLY UNNECESSARY AND COULD SERIOUSLY DAMAGE WOMEN’S BACKBONE, which thousand yoga classes cannot fix.

If anything, women should listen to their inner voice, follow their heart, rely on their values, beliefs, instincts and pick and choose the opportunities available in every aspect of their life.

XO,
Sharon
