Homeopathy and Mental Health

In this article I'm going to discuss the homeopathic way of treating mental illness.

I'd like you, just for a moment, to forget all about labels and diagnosis' of mental health problems such as Bipolar, Syndromes, Disorders and Spectrums.

It's certainly very useful for some people to have a diagnosis, because in conventional medicine without one, you won't get any treatment or care.

However, please....

Step away from the label just for a moment...

After a time, your diagnosis ceases to be the useful means of getting help and treatment and becomes the way you talk about and think about yourself.

Or maybe I should say your 'Self'.

"I've got bipolar....therefore I can't........stay up late, drink Americano, get into debt".

...fill in the blanks

"My ADHD means I have to......not do.....should do...."

"My doctor, psychiatrist, sister, Uncle, Mother, Mom says my......prevents me from......."

You are not your diagnosis.

You are a person.

A human.

A husband, wife, mother, father, sister, brother, daughter or son.

You are/were a child...

Don't limit yourself because of your diagnosis. Work as hard as you can to return your 'Self' to be the person you were before your health took a dive.

Remember when people called you by your name?

Now they write you letters with your diagnosis at the top of the letter and your 'treatment plan' at the bottom.

Don't become your 'complaint'.

Remember also under that diagnosis, the real you still exists.

Homeopathy and the Real You
In homeopathy we want to learn, find out, discover the 'You' that is behind the set of circumstances that caused your thinking and/or behaviour to change.

People (generally) don't randomly lose their mental health for no reason.

Was it abuse, isolation, insomnia, stress, bad eating, recreational or non-prescription drugs or grief that changed you?

And what were/are those changes?

1) Did you or do you want to talk, talk, talk ....
or
2) Are you restless and fearful?
or
3) Are you extremely anxious, suffering from great anguish?
or
4) Can you be suspicious, jealous, laughing at everything and nothing?
or
5) Have you been shocked, or bereaved, are/were you under mental stress and strain?
or
6) Will you be thinking gloomy and despairing thoughts, thinking of suicide even though you've got a great fear of death?

These are the questions and observations a homeopath will take note of.
We have to be the unprejudiced observer. 1.
Non-judgemental.

We are interested (genuinely) in your symptoms, because your symptoms are your body's way of asking for help.
Our job is to convert your symptoms into the language the homeopathic provers 2. used when they trialled the remedies we use to help you.

We want to know if you feel better in the hot weather, or cold....or by the sea, or on a hill.

We want to know your likes and dislikes and the isness of your true, inner 'Self'.

Making a diagnosis of bipolar and prescribing lithium or aripiprazole or olanzapine doesn't mirror or match the anguish you might have felt when your boyfriend or mother died, or your father beat you when you were small.

Homeopathic prescribing rests on the solid foundation of 'Let Like Treat Like' so the remedies we use, mirror your experience and help you resolve, gently, carefully those problems.

And Homeopathy will help.....a little at a time.

The remedies that match the short symptom descriptions above are:
1) Lachesis
2) Aconite
3) Arsenicum
4) Hyoscyamus
5) Ignatia
6) Aurum
