I love to watch fireworks. The best i have ever seen were on a Disney cruise over the ocean (on Pirate thene. Night). Our dogs all hate them. We used to go to the local park on July 3rd for fireworks over the canal. We no longer go as the grounds are not wheelchair friendly (getting stuck in/on small holes on the ground is not a fun experience). While staying at a hotel in downtown Chicago for clinic visits we were able to see some festival fireworks over Lake Michigan. We were far enough away that our dogs seemed oblivious to the noise from those.
I used to love watching fireworks and we always had them. Now not so much. Nashville has a huge fireworks display that is one of the biggest in the country. We have one dog that actually likes to watch them, looks up at them even. My boy Tyler however does not. He will bark like crazy. So as for me, I do not care for fireworks at all.
I used to love to watch the fireworks. But, as you mentioned, dogs don't like them. And my dog is terrified of fireworks, thunderstorms, and chirping smoke detectors. Seeing how she suffers had made me hate fireworks. She needs to be medicated and wrapped in a Thundershirt to help ease her anxiety. Our county has several fireworks shows, but we can't go to watch them because of all the neighborhood DIY-ers that buy the fireworks from those pop-up tent stores that show up in parking lots this time of year. I feel like I have become the neighborhood party-pooper. But it just breaks my heart to see Sandy suffer.
I'm so sorry to hear about all of your pets suffering during the Fireworks. I hope this year is not too bad for them.
Like so many others, I loved fireworks as a kid but now as an adult, I see how they affect my dogs and I don't really care for them anymore. I have three Shih Tzus that are terrified of fireworks. Interestingly, they aren't afraid of anything else like thunderstorms or any other noisy things, just fireworks. During the Fourth and New Years (the only time fireworks are done in my town), I take my Tzus downstairs to the family room, turn on soothing piano music and then distract them with toys and games until the celebrations are over!
For all of those with nervous doggies like me, I just saw on the news this morning that the FDA has approved a new medicine to treat noise aversion that doesn't knock the dog out. Its called Sileo: https://www.zoetisus.com/products/dog...Our two previous prescription meds did nothing to help Sandy. We are currently using a homeopathic and thundershirt. The combination works better than the prescriptions, but there is still room for improvement. Going to have to check with the vet about this new med.
I liked watching fireworks from the parking lot near us, until Neil was unable to go. Then we watched from our bedroom window, usually while they were on TV, also. This year I just watched a few from the window and petted my oldest cat while the rest went off. I like to watch the ones on TV because they are not dangerous to see.
When I was young I enjoyed the fireworks-especially since it was the final celebration of my dad's birthday! But as I have matured, I have become more and more annoyed with fireworks. One of the main reasons is that everyone seems to start celebrating a few days early and continues for several nights. Our neighborhood is overwhelmed with booms and pops for hours on end! Pets are terrified as are babies! If it were only public displays that would be regulated, it might be ok. However, this has turned into a dangerous nuisance that results in way too many injuries as well as untold hearing damage.

I grew up on a farm and we had fireworks every year. They were lots of fun for me as a child, but I don't like "neighborhood" firework shows now.... they are noisy and too close to homes. And..fireworks can be dangerous.
I agree with you Duffy. The fireworks are scary for pets.
And, I have heard that some Veterans can be troubled by Fireworks also ( the noises created by Fireworks ).
