My post
Beautiful People,
Every Monday of the past six months, I’ve honored women immigrants who have made a matchless contribution to our nation.
These women have inspired me, each in her field, and for that I am forever grateful-
Arianna Huffington, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, who transformed women’s influence in the media
Jhumpa Lahiri, an author, whose love for words is contagious
Cristina Ggarcia, journalist and novelist, who shows heritage cannot and should not be left behind
Thai Lee, CEO and president of the largest female-owned business in America, SHI International Corp., who demonstrates modesty, hard-work, and talent is enough for success
Tracy Ullman who offers people one of the best gifts in life: the gift of laughter
Safra Catz, CEO of Oracle, who reminds us that self-made accomplishments are hard to match
Jin Chang, co-founder of Forever 21, who validates that a combination of resourcefulness, vision, and courage is the most powerful force
Peggy Cherng, co-chair and co-chief executive of Panda Express who proves that following your heart pays off
Natalie Portman, an actress and film director, who reminds us that a combination of beauty with brains is irresistible
Eren Ozmen, President of Sierra Nevada Corporation, who shows that work-life balance, is another key for success
Weili Dai, co-founder of Marvell Semiconductor, who inspires and encourages women to choose STEM fields
Giada De Laurentiis, a chef, who shows that following your heart without losing your soul is a delightful recipe for success
Josie Natori, CEO & founder of Natori Company, who validates that there is no better place in the world for an immigrant to succeed than in the U.S.
Elena Pirozhkova, a wrestler for the United States Olympic team, who shows that with persistence, perseverance almost nothing impossible
Alice Y. Ting, a Taiwanese-born American chemist, who proves diversity is innovation catalyst
Mee Moua, politician and the president and executive director of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice, who demonstrates that the power of minority is its ability to elicit creativity and imagination
LOOK AT THIS LIST and THINK about the contribution immigrants, men or women, who came to America by choice or no-choice, by force, indispensability or necessity have made to our life, our community, and our nation.
America became a superpower because it was able to recognize the relationships between diversity and success.
Being blind to and ignore the influence of immigrants on our society, economy, politics, academia is not only ungrateful and disrespectful but it is also the beginning of the downfall.
TOGETHERNESS IS THE PEOPLE’S POWER; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
XO,
Sharon
