A number of people have asked me lately why I’ve decided to write with a nom-de-guerre. Fair question… here are the reasons.
I choose to remain anonymous for three reasons.
Reason one: I’m a pretty private person. I don’t want my personal life to be taken over by the persona of “My Name, the Author of…” I think it might cause me to forget to turn off the artificial defining of myself by what I do.
Reason two: At this point in my career as a gadfly I’ve seen enough to know that dealing with controversial subjects and ideas that run counter to the grain of entrenched thinking begs for trouble, and life is trouble enough all on its own. I don’t want to deal with the hemlock pushers.
Reason three: I don’t want to get in the way of my own ideas. The reason I write is to reach people. I will use whatever medium or methods or words make sense to do that. If the audience I’m trying to reach begins to focus on me rather than the ideas and the message, that will be a negative reinforcing loop I don’t want to put in play.
I hope you enjoy my stories, and I am excited to drop the ideas into the world mind.
