Adult fans of Y/A - I have a question for you.
I find it interesting that since the first Harry Potter book (for 'magic and mystery') and the first Twilight book (for 'paranormal romance') made it to the big-time, adult fans of YA fiction have come out of the woodwork (or forests, closets, fireplaces, coffins, or wherever else they were hiding.)
Why?
Were they there all along, hiding in the isles at B&N and pretending to buy that hot new teen romance for their niece or that awesome new dragon adventure for their nephew, or did it take these books to make the adults stop and take a closer look?
What is it that draws them to YA? What draws you? Is it for you, like it is for me, remembering that first feeling of true love, or that thought in the back of your mind how cool it would be to have a superpower to zap the algebra I teacher with? Is it the tingle you get in the pit of your stomach when the hero gives his first sexy wink, or that feeling of smug satisfaction when the bad guy goes flying through the air thanks to that powerful spell he didn't know you...I mean the main character, knew? ;-)

And by the way, if it's that first feeling of true love or that tingly stomach when the hero winks, go get my novel Tempus (if you haven't already.) Trust me.

You hit the nail on the head for me Tyra! Don't get me wrong.. I LOVE my husband.. But how awesome would it be if he could be as romantic as Gabriel!!! It is a mixture of romance, suspense, and awesome talents that the characters have that keep me reading. Its nice to have a little place to go to when bills are due, work is stressful and the house needs to be cleaned. I can escape into a place where everything is magical!

While working on Tempus, I would read scenes to my husband while I was working on them. Now you have to understand that my husband is capable of being extremely, romantic, but he's also very much a macho man, so he is perfect for helping me keep a good balance when I am writing - we all want a romantic hero, but who wants a 'girly guy,' right?
So anyway, I would read some of the scenes and my husband would say 'Are you trying to give a me a hint or something?' I'd say no (because I wasn't) but he would look at me skeptically anyway.
One evening when I was reading a scene to him in bed he sat straight up and said "That's it! It's official."
I said "What's official?"
He said "I officially hate Gabriel."
So, I said "That's just too bad for you then, because I officially love Gabriel."
He grinned and said "That's exactly why I hate him, he's been trying to steal you all along."
