Good-bye, Comic Con 2011!
As usual, Comic Con flashed by in a whirlwind of colors and noise. I hauled in a vast amount of free books, most of which are from authors I've never read before, so I'm very excited to try something new. I actually made it in to some panels this year as well, so I'm coming home leaning toward hooking the cable and DVR back up after two years of internet TV and hulu. How else will I watch all of these cool new shows? And a definite highlight: attending the WORLD PREMIERE of Cowboys & Aliens! Can anything top the experience of watching a fantastic summer movie while breathing the same air as Harrison Ford and Spielberg? Nothing, I say! Nothing!
There's so much more to say, but it boils down to this: I came, I saw, I geeked out. And if I've learned one important thing from Comic Con, it's that the creative process has the power not only to entertain, but to move people, to inspire. Big dreams start small. Big projects begin with baby steps, propelled (and sometimes forced) onward with the twin forces of hope and enthusiasm. Without drive, without determination, without heart, and sometimes even pain, we will not have art.
In other words, time to get back to work. :)
