My post
Beautiful People,
Yesterday, I read an excellent article by Mel Robbins, The Trump Tape Doesn't matter, published on CNN Opinion. Mel had pointed out all things Trump, which does not matter- from the recurring bankruptcies to hidden tax returns, to lewd remarks towards women, to mocking the disabled, to insult immigrants, POWs, fallen soldier’s parents, through making threats against people and countries allies or foes.
The commentator stated that the latest controversy will not beat him, and she’s correct. Many of us could somewhat accept his locker room banter over everything else he has said.
Robbins concluded that “to Trump’s supporters, a vote for Trump is a way to flip the middle finger to the system, the media, the elite, the liberals, the know-it-alls and the people who pretend they're better than "us”; THIS IS WHERE I DISAGREE.
Yes, this election is about defiance and resentment against the system, Washington’s politicians, the media, the elite, the liberals, the know-it-alls. BUT the bitterness, dissatisfaction and the need to flip the finger AREN'T limited to Trump’s voters or Republican voters in general. Those feelings are also valid for the 12,193,152 Bernie Sanders’ voters, who craved changing the old order.
For this reason, Mel’s advice to Hillary Clinton “to inspire his supporters to be better human beings than him” is hardly effective.
You see, no matter if you are a deplorable, woman, disabled person, immigrant, person of color, fallen soldier’s family, or POW what you have in common with everybody else is the disgust at Washington’s way of doing business:
The connection between wealth and policy, health and wealth, promoting a personal agenda or a party agenda over the common good, the discrepancy between pre-election and post-election message, the congress’ inability to communicate, collaborate, negotiate and promote issues that influence voters’ life every single day.
Hillary Clinton’s job as a presidential candidate isn’t to make someone a better human being; this is the job of a spiritual leader, a teacher or a parent. Hillary Clinton is a politician, and her job is to satisfy voters and promise them first a change in the system itself.
President Barack Obama failed in working with the other side of the aisle and Americans pay the price daily in so many ways. Hillary Clinton should not only promise to work collaboratively with Republicans but truly be committed to succeed.
SHE COULD START BY OUSTING POLITICAL CORRECTNESS AND BRING BACK THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH.
Voters’ road from resentment to redemption is long and hard, but a month during elections might be enough to grant her a knockout victory, a kind of victory not only she needs but also our divided nation requires.
XO,
Sharon
