Dadr'Ba, the ship

In deep space, a large cylindrical star-ship rotating produce artificial gravity, is decelerating in interstellar space.

The ship is a kilometer in diameter, and approximately seven kilometers long.

On both ends are Whipple Shields composed of protective blast plates. This protects the ship from interstellar debris and meteorites. Both ends are protected by massive Whipple shields there are five layers 100 meters apart, about the same width as the bands. (The ship has to flip half way through its flight to slow down so needs meteorite protection on both ends).

The ship is powered by a fusion rocket engine whose blast, jetting out the middle of one end, is comparatively small, less than a tenth the diameter of the ship.

The rocket blast reaches out in front of the ship and forms an aurora out in the distance (the ship is decelerating) as the rocket blast interacts with earlier rocket exhaust debris and the ships massive magnetic field.

This is deep space, the nearest sun is at least 5 light years away, the light will be coming from starlight and the artificial aurora and from the intensely hot rocket exhaust.

The bands that look so small are over 100 meters across and some contain docking bays for cargo ships, primarily used during construction and pre-launch preparations. Nonrotating bands on the ends of the ship contain rail guns and laser cannon that are normally folded down and behind doors. These are used to break up and atomize smaller obstacles that don’t warrant an avoidance maneuver. When something is in the way that needs to be dealt with, the Rail Guns and Laser Cannon bay doors open, fold up and if needed telescope out (to avoid the hitting the Whipple shields).

The protrusions in the diagram are radio telescope antenna spun out (using centrifugal force) on tethers and are used to detect obstacles and debris (there are three sets of antennae). These must rotate much slower than the rest of the ship since they are spun far out from the ship and would suffer unnecessary stress if rotated at the ships rotational velocity.

Scattered across the surface of the ship are heat exchangers/radiators and hot gas exhaust vents necessary to keep the ship cool. The hot gas exhaust vents are equipped with ionizing panels which allows for recovery the exhausted gases in the ships magnetic field ramjet.
