I've read "The Whistling Room" twice (once when I was just a preteen kid), and consider it a very powerful, eerie supernatural story. (view spoiler)[It's only defect is the use of a Deus ex machina device to extract the protagonist from certain doom, which feels (to me, at least) like authorial cheating. (hide spoiler)] We have the complete collection of Hodgson's Carnacki stories at the BC library where I work, and I hope to read them all before long.
