Adios, Borders, That Never Sold My New Book
A few months ago when my distributor for Lake Charles was considering which sales outlets to send it, Borders got an automatic pass. Simply put, they couldn't pay their bills. That was a bummer since our nearest brick-and-mortar store was a Borders. I liked it. Digital is cool. But so is picking up a paperback book. Especially if it's your own book.
Which segues to my next topic. I've yet to see a copy of Lake Charles on a bookstore shelf. I can view online there are copies out for sale in the Chapters outlet throughout Canada (Halifax, Toronto, Montreal, London).
Sadly, I'm not taking a trip up to Canada. Some Barnes & Nobles are carrying Lake Charles, but I haven't tracked one down.
(Hey, do me a big solid. If you should spot Lake Charles for sale on the bookshelf, can you give me a holler? Appreciate it very much.)
Now back to Borders. Damn shame, isn't it? I'd like to see more bookstore chains opening. I'd like to see readers flocking there in droves. Only no matter how much I wish, it ain't going to happen any time soon. Or maybe it will. Never say never.

I quite agree with you concerning troubled brick-and-mortar book stores, it's the saddest thing to see them struggle wherever u turn in this world. I'm not a bookish person in the quaint way, but it's for sure nicer to disappear behind a wall of books than behind an assortment of notebooks, iPADs and the like...
If you are interested I'll post a brief LC review in late August.
