Release day and Reviews!

Hi there! EAB here! Black Snow was released yesterday!!!!! Thank you so much for all the support! I'm happy to say that it's receiving good feedback so far, but a question I always get from writers/readers is, "how do you handle bad reviews?"

Well first off, I don't take it personally. The person reading your book doesn't know you, or the sleepless nights, possibly blood, sweat and tears you've put into your novel. All they see is the finished product and they're only judging you on that. So don't get worked up as though they're insulting you personally with a bad review.

Secondly, I look past the star rating, and actually read what they're saying. If a person rates a book one star because "they didn't like the characters". That means they've had a reaction to your characters. It's okay that they didn't like them. All characters are not likable. People in real life are not always nice and sweet and likable. It's okay that someone didn't like your character. Especially if they're not supposed to be a likable character. Reading the review can also tell you things about your story. It may have fell flat in certain places. Maybe the ending was too abrupt. Maybe the dialogue felt convoluted. A good reviewer will tell you all these things and more.

And finally, I put things into perspective. One thing I always tell myself is that "my favorite book has a one star review." (More than one but that's neither here nor there) There's not going to be a book out there that someone, somewhere, didn'tlike. It's why we have millions of books to choose from. Just because one person enjoyed your story, characters and premise, does not mean everyone will. And that is okay. There's no prize for most number of 5 star ratings on Goodreads....or if there is, I don't know about it. Lol.

So don't stress, enjoy the reviews, the connections readers have with your characters, and keep writing those love stories! Thanks again for reading, and I hope you enjoy Black Snow! Black Snow
