New work coming!

In the midst of the Sturm und Drang of the election (and churning through the stages of grief following it), I somehow managed to get a bit of writing done!

I had originally planned to work on Harper's sequel for NaNo, but that didn't happen, beyond going over the ~15,000 words I've already written and making some tweaks here and there. I'll get back to it soon, though holiday stuff will still take some bandwidth away.

What I did instead of that, however, was write a ~6,000-word short story, The Man Who Drained the Sea. This is currently in revision and will be sent off to my beloved editor in a few weeks. Once she's had her way with it, I'll decide what to do with it after that. I may pub it right away, but I'm also considering submitting it to some of the SFF periodicals. I'll make up my mind after it's in public-ready form.

The story is a fleshed-out version of one I made up for my son. It concerns Charles, a wealthy game-company CEO who loses something precious at sea. Obsessed with the loss, he pursues unconventional methods to get it back, with unexpected consequences. I hope you'll enjoy it, and I'll be sure to post about it once it's out, however that happens.
