Merry Bookmas

I started a tradition, several years ago, of choosing an independent bookstore and ordering all (OK, many) of my Christmas presents through its website or over the phone. Then, a couple of days before Christmas, I go to the bookstore in person and pick up my haul. (And usually throw in a few more gifts....sometimes for myself....as well.)

It's partly out of wanting to support indie bookstores and partly out of sheer laziness. One-stop holiday shopping.

This year, I'm excited to give a bunch of books that I won't name here for fear that my gift-ees might read this.

But I'm curious: what books are you giving for holiday presents this year?

Bonny I love your indie bookstore Christmas book-buying tradition! I'm having fun choosing kids books for grandnephews since my kids are grown. The Runaway Bunny, The Mitten, Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig, and Press Here have all been wrapped and sent around the country. I'm giving adults on my list Sand County Almanac, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, The Nix, Born to Run, One Man's Meat and The Unseen World. I hope you'll share the book titles that you gifted after the recipients have opened them.

OK, now that Christmas is over, here they are:

Blue Highways by William Least Heat-Moon for my roadtrip-loving grandfather

The Trespasser by Tana French for my Tana French-loving mother

The Abby Wambach autobiography for my soccer-loving father

Two Pokemon books for my Pokemon-loving nephew

and several children's books for my daughter, selected randomly upon arrival.

Britta I gave "Man Called Ove" and a mystery (the "Chalk Circle Man" - I've never read it, but the reviews were promising) to my father.
"Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" and "Fatal Grace" to my mystery reading mother-in-law.
"And the Mountains Echoed" to my daughter.
"I am Zlatan" to my soccer loving, reading-averse teen son. (he used to read more, and I'm trying to keep him going.)

And on that note: if you have any other tips for soccer related books, fiction and non-fiction, I'd love to hear them.
