How to Deal with Writer’s Block.

Inspiring Writers from the Heart this Monday afternoon. 12/12/16

One of the most annoying problems I come across when writing a book is writer’s block. Its so frustrating when you have your flow going and you’ve got an idea of what you want but all of a sudden you don’t know how to ‘put it on paper’ and your mind goes blank.

You’re stuck…I get it, and that is why I’ve figured out a few, dare I say ‘techniques’…to help anyone who is seeking advice when it comes to this dreadfully daunting problem.

So, let us begin…

Here are the three techniques that work for me:

Its Break Time!!!

Take a small break. Perhaps you’ve been writing for an hour or two, perhaps more; and your brain is begging for you to rest. Put down whatever you are writing in and rest. Entertain your brain with something else for a while. Eventually the writing flow will come back and you’ll be able to jot all of your amazing ideas down.

Cut Your Thoughts Down, Just A Notch…

Oh, its always nice to be a thinker, we writers are known for our excessive thought, but, you have to stop thinking, just for a moment. Perhaps you are having a hard time in your life right now and its getting in the way of your writing. Pause for a second and clear your mind. Try to think about nothing but your awesome book that is right in front of your face, and once again, if you must take a break, do so.

Step it Back A Little, Speedy Author!!!

As much as it would be nice to speed write/edit through a project, the creativity found in books can only be attained by time, effort and will. As they say, where there’s a will there’s a way. Look at what you have written so far and read a paragraph or two up. You can even read a few sentences up. Choose however much you feel you need to read over. The point of this is to get you to remember what you wanted to express in that specific part/scene of your story. It will ‘refresh’ your memory, so to speak.

So, there you have it. Three ways to deal with writer’s block. Try these, they should help you. Never, ever, give up on your dreams of being a writer, and show this world you are capable of much more than it thinks you are! If you have a question, comment. I’ll be glad to help you with whatever you need.

Be Encouraged!!!
