My List of Famous Men With Long Beards

I saw in the newspaper last week a Cable TV show on men with long beards. I didn't watch the show, but it got me to wondering about famous men with bodacious whiskers. So, I drew up a fun list to share on my weblog today. I grew a beard when I graduated from high school, but within a few years, I decided beards and I didn't mix too well.

Factoid: The average beard grows 5" per year.

Factoid: Cats don't like men with long beards. (I'm not too sure about that study's findings.)

Factoid: William Howard Taft was the last U.S. President with a beard.

#1. the two ZZ Top dudes

#2. Confucius

#3. Poseidon (okay, so he's a god)

#4. Blackbeard the Pirate

#5. Hans Langseth (Clocked in at 17'6" long! Gotta be a record.)

#6. Atilla the Hun

#7. Tom Hanks ("Castaway")

#8. Leo Tolstoy

#9. Brian Wilson (SF Giant's relief pitcher)

#10. Friedrich Engels

Randy A random thought:

The one guy in ZZ Top without a beard(the drummer) goes by the name Frank Beard. Whether that's a real name or a professional(most likely), it seems entirely too coincidental that he doesn't have one.

Ha. How's that irony? Didn't know that. Thanks.

Barry God, Moses and Jesus had beards in the photos I have seen. Of course the guys in ZZTop were more famous. Garth from The Band should definitely be on the list as a better musician than any of the ZZTop guys.
Also, don't forget Karl Marx and Santa, both of whom believe in redistribution of wealth.
