I have it outlined. Right now, I'm re-editing Wolf's Run and working on book three but I do plan to write the next Knight of Stars book. Thanks for your post,
Shane
Shane, Great job in the wolf series - These books made me slow up and think about the details of history and the arts you intertwine in the story. At first they threw me but after awhile they became interesting and now are something to look forward to. Your story line is well developed and I've yet to find a substantive error and doubt i will. I hope you can extend your imagination in this realm a lot more and continue. I truly like sci-fi as you have presented it.
Good Luck
john
PS _ neat bow wow - ours is a 100 LB choc lab.
Thanks, John, I know some people don't like the history parts/references but in the military, there is a strong sense of tradition and history. The name of a ship and its history could even inspire a crew to fight harder than anyone could imagine. I think in book two I made most of the history references a little less obvious and smoother than book one.
My pup's name is Kirby (one of three) he is a German Shepard/ Collie mix. One smart, loyal, goofy good boy.
Thanks again for your comments,
Shane
Hi Cindy, I'm just finishing re-editing some of my other novels and will be getting back to writing soon. I have Wolf 3 all outlined and the first few chapters are written. I'm hoping by the end of summer. I have a couple other jobs and two toddlers. Some books are fast 2-3 months and some take a little longer (8 months). Thanks for the email if you haven't read The Blood of Other I'd recommend it. It is also set in the Star Wolf Universe and has some tie-ins to the Wolf series.
Thanks again,
Shane
Wow just saw a review for Wolf's Run (one star out of five) on Amazon that had nothing to do with my book. The guy's description wasn't even about my book. He said (his typos included)"This book is a difficult read. Did not keep my interest. Based on a ridiculous premise. How do former earth residents obtain the technology and weapons in such remote andifficult places as mercury, Venus, and the moon's of Jupiter. Incredibly difficult to gain any degree of possibility".
None of my Sci-Fi books, least of all the Wolf novels are set anywhere near Earth, Mercury, Venus or the moons of Jupiter. What is he talking about?
I'm on page 336, I am at a spot that I could publish now (a natural break) or continue the story for another 100 pages giving my readers a little more and moving the story a little further along. I'm probably going to witre the next section. So it will be a little longer but its getting done. Thanks,
Shane
Hello and many blessings to the VanAulen Clan. I am glad about the Knight of Stars for I just truly enjoy it, as well as the TLGW.
Very soon, I'm on the last stage of editing which is a read aloud. I hope to have it out within the next two weeks. In fact, I 've been reading/proofing it and watching my two-year-old daughter all afternoon. Thanks for your interest and email,
Shane

I was a bit worried that reader from the Amazon discussion group would find me on Goodreads.
Hope, you and your family been well.
Shane
I am glad I was able to meander my way here. My family and I are all well thanks for asking. I am looking forward to more of your works. Please be well and many blessings to you all.
Now!I just submitted it to Amazon for publishing. They said it will be available within 72 hours.
The Title is - "Wolves at the Gate"
Hope everyone enjoys this next chapter in the Star Wolf Squadron saga.
Shane
Just got my first 1 star out a 5-star review for Wolves at the Gate on Amazon. A real kick in the gut as I work hard on my books but I'm just one guy. Makes me wonder if I should keep writing. The review is below grammar errors are his."Shane VanAulen is an excellent storyteller. What Mr. VanAulen is not is literate. I have enjoyed reading his previous Star Wolf books except for his lack of editing which I found irritating and disruptive to the flow of the story.
This book is excruciatingly painful to read. Every, EVery, EVERY, page has wrong tenses, homonym failures, missing words, just plain WRONG words for the context therein. Anyone with a 8th grade American education should be able to write better than this grammar wise.
I have never, I say never, been booted out of Suspension of Disbelief so many times in a single page, chapter, book. This book is unreadable by anyone who reads above the 5th grade level. Simply put, it is an abomination!
Mr. VanAulen, get a 9th grade graduate to proof read your work, it would have to improve it 300% at least!
Honestly, I believe the english language must be VanAulen's non-native language because there MUST be some reason for such truly terrible grammar!
I'm done, author off follow, moving on to at least someone who writes as though they passed 8th grade english.
Just My Opinion, YMMV."
The internet lets every idiot express and opinion. Many just enjoy being a troll. None of them would every say these this to your face. Nor do they feel the need to argue from facts.
I hate to say this but you have been very fortunate not to be noticed by them.
Also, you can not argue with a stupid, that that thinks there smart.
Did you have grammar errors, probably. But, you also don't have a Editor/publisher. But, if you had gone the Editor/publisher route your first book would never had made it to readers. That would have sadden me greatly. Also, it piss me off not to hear the end of your stories!!!
Last year I had the honor of talking to Jerry Pournelle, I have been waiting since 1987 for the next book in the Janissaries series. He told me at Dragon Con that I would have that book this year, and he need at least one more after that to complete the story. I was heart broken a week later to hear of this great mans passing, and those untold stories. Don't let these stories die because of this issue.
Ignore him if he you think he is full of crap. If you think there is a small kernel to what that this moron said, then fix it. Simple as that, just hard work. There are some tricks other author's use. I list some below.
Remeber, Life is not Fair, for which I am thankful, other wise I deserve everything I have revived.
Some authors have found creative ways to tackle editing. They find Fans who are used to review and proof early versions.
Look at these public groups in face book of some author's that used fans to help tackle this issue.
Joshua Wachter Facebook group "Multi-Sector Patrol Fleet" Admiral Who Series.
Chris Hechtl Facebook group "Federation Military Network"
I know there are more indy authored that use
Joshua Wacther and his brother also created "Pacific Crest Publishing" as another method of getting user to help proof work using the power of fans.
www pacificcrestpublishing com
Baen.com -- Go look in there Forums they, is surprising then number of indi authors that use them to help with there work. Yes, a book publisher helping authors that don't publish though them. Weird but true.
Because, every writer knows
, proofing your work is hard, finding mistakes in someone easy work is easy.
Final though. I am a 54, who was and still is servery dyslexic(and ADHD). I read at a 2nd grade level in the 7th grade. In the 8th grade I meet people that read books, 2 years later I was reading 3+ books a week.
Thanks for the pep talk and the advice. I have a similar 8th-grade story, working family in which everyone worked at night but I luckily started karate lessons and got expose to college-educated adult students. I wanted to fit in and be part of that group. They were talking about books and I went out and bought them and read my first books. From that point on I read everything and pulled myself up and eventually went into the army and worked my way through college. It looks like the critic took his review down. I saw some other readers commenting on his review earlier today. So thanks, everyone .
Thanks again Eric,
Shane
Woke up to see the Critic is back. Amazon must have made him clean up his review a little. Oh well, such is life!
Shane
PS I have started book four and I'm 5,000 words into it.

So when can I give you money for Book 4?
So, when can I give you money for the next Star Wolf Novel... I want to give you money...Write Faster!
I need time guess / estimates so i can keep hope alive. I was waiting 10+ years for the 4th jannasaries book by Jerry Pournell. Last year at dragoncon he told me 2019 and that the story needed 2/3 more books to complete the story. I was over joyed! A week later it was all bitter sweet, when he passed away.
I'd say I'm at 30% with the next Star Wolf novel. I have a full-time job and a part-time job as well as a two and five-year-old so writings been slow. I also have another project that has been creeping in on me and my time. I don't want to put a date on it but end of Spring? So at least it won't be ten years.
Take care,
Shane
Sometimes it goes faster - two of my novels were written in three months.

Would love to know your plan for the Knight of Stars Saga. Is there a book 2 coming?
Thanks!
