300 Words Flash Fiction

Roses are red

Glorious life was perfect for Karol and Jared. At least until he was stolen away by that witch Samantha. Bastard roses were never red because apparently she gave him what Karol could not.

Violets are blue

Karol found a reason to live within the rectangular world of the monthly subscription boxes - small at first- a make-up pouch filled with trial sized nail polish and lip gloss here, a coffee sampler there. Soon the boxes lined the walls of her lonely house.
Violets were always blue, but today her favorite monthly book subscription box was due! It usually contained a recently published romance novel, a personalized motivational note and a variety of awesome mystery goodies like bookmarks or a coffee cup, all beautifully wrapped in colorful tissue paper. Who needed flowers on Valentine’s day or a Jared at all? Not Karol. Not Karol ever- no- not- never.
Waiting eagerly by the window, she finally spotted the mail delivery man approaching the house with the package lifeline. Karol ripped it opened and, with trembling fingers, snatched the scented card.
‘From Jared to Karol, my forever Valentine’
She dropped the box in shock and all the contents prettily tripped out.
"Oh, my! How unexpected!" she gasped, then fell to gather together the precious items. How could she ever have doubted Him! Of course fucking roses are red - even if at times the path was strewn with... finger nails, or the pretty bud of Samantha's nose.

Cut them all up
And I am for you.

As she carefully unwrapped a still bloody nipple, Karol realized the key to a successful relationship was trust and being able to enjoy things together. She feverishly stroked her treasures and silently counted off the days until next month's box.
