Hard Drive died

Not a good week. Playing Neopets and suddenly got BSOD, Tried to fix it, gave up, took the tower to Best Buy and they said they couldn't get anything off the HD at all. Luckily I had backups but turns out the failing HD meant they hadn't been backing up properly, plus do you know how much stuff you have saved, downloaded, bookmarked over 6 years? A lot, that's what.

New HD saved us buying a new computer (though I want one of my own; tired of sharing it with husband. The kids have their laptops so why can't I have a computer just for me?)

I'm doing okay but I have a feeling all the files for my web page might be toast. Rebuilding that would be hellish. And how many ppl visit it? Not sure.

Waiting for the files I do have to be restored. Been going on for a few hours now.

Wish me luck!

It was a horrible, lost feeling. I'm still tripping up over missing files, sites that look different (Facebook is totally different; how? Why?) Sorry you went through this hell too :-(

It is an awful feeling. At the beginning I made sure everything was backed up even my bookmarks but somewhere along the way I got lazy and stopped now it feels like such a daunting task but I'm going to have to do so I don't go through that again.

I'm not sure why Facebook would be totally different, that's weird.

My back up was automatic and supposed to overwrite the previous one on an external drive but it often didn't and I'd run out of space. Scary how reliant we are on computers in just a few decades of having them. In
best buy the lady beside me handed over her laptop and said "my life is on there."

Monika It is scary how reliant we are on computers and our smartphones. That lady is right, while not all of my life is on my laptop a huge portion of it is. The one thing that scares me the most to lose are my pictures and of course my books!

I didn't even think to set up my laptop and external drive to back up automatically I've just done it on my own.

Vivian Ugh. Horrible. Glad you had backups. I had 20K of a story written and for some reason never backed it up to my thumb drive--Stupid! I hate the idea of even trying to rewrite it.

That would be my worst nightmare; so sorry you lost it!

Monika My laptop was doing some weird stuff yestserday which is funny but not. Funny because we just commented on this and not because that was frightening. My laptop is only 2 yeaes old! I spent yesterday afternoon making sure everything was backed up.

Tammy My husband bought me my own computer and it the very best gift ever. NO SHARING WHATSEVER hands off to the rest of the family! LOL In all seriousness I would think it would be imperative as an author for you to have your own, you should just say F... it and buy one! ;-)

I have gotten him to agree it would be a Good Thing so we will see how it goes! Really in this day and age, it's a necessity more than a luxury.
