"Risk"

Risk is part of every deed.
But we are driven to succeed
Even if we have to bleed.
Glory is such a primal need.

Cars are chariots, metal steeds.
They blur by at awesome speeds.
Four lanes never seemed so vast
When confronting things that move so fast.

Can you get to the other side?
Or is the gap just too wide?
That’s what you must now decide.
Challenge them, or run and hide.
Life is such an unknown ride.
But regret means you never tried.

The asphalt is soaked in red
From the bodies of the dead.
A harbinger of what’s ahead
If that’s where you dare to tread.

Stay here and you’ll stay alive.
Leave and you may not survive.
Courage is the car you drive.
The brake is that you may not arrive.
Feed your fear or your desire.
Which one is the brighter fire?

*****

Congratulations on getting over here.
Your desire was greater than your fear.
But now you must climb this wall
Which is very slick and very tall.
You will die if you fall.
It’s your decision, and your call.

You look so scared and so sour.
But why so sad and so dour?
What you want is within your power.
Scramble up, or sit and cower.

And after that, there’s always more.
Because that’s what life has in store.
Success won’t just wash ashore.
You’ll instead face challenges galore.
So risk is what you must adore
And fear is what you must ignore.

Stay here and you’ll stay alive.
Leave and you may not survive.
Courage is the car you drive.
The brake is that you may not arrive.
Feed your fear or your desire.
Which one is the brighter fire?
