#MysteryWeek Five Sentence Story

In the spirit of #MysteryWeek, I've written a five sentence suspense story. Let me know what you think!

Edgar Hartwell, pudgy and nearing seventy, fed his cats, made his tea, and then settled in with the latest from his favorite mystery novelist. How he loved these quiet evenings at home, alone with his thoughts and his books.

Then someone knocked at the door, and, by the sound, Edgar knew it was work intruding on his peace once again. When he pulled it open, he saw the man—his handler—who always brought him the best jobs.

“Edgar,” the man said, “twenty-five thousand, and make it look like an accident.”

Thanks, Robyn! Hmmm...I guess he could have a little, tiny lapdog...

Rhonda L. Hi, David. I just wanted to say that, as a lover of ALL of your books, I also loved this little "5-sentence story." As far as the various "keep going..." comments, there's no need (imho) for any continuation! I eagerly anticipate enjoying all of your future works. Take Care, Rhonda

David Thanks, Rhonda! You never know...maybe I will keep going. But it's hard to write a complete story in five sentences...

And I think you did so brilliantly! Although...I'm now thinking about just how much FUN you could have, were you to now expand this into a longer story! A "Geriatric Hitman?" BRILLIANT! And earning $25,000 per job? NO cat food to be found in this old man's cupboard! Unless, of course, he HAS a cat... ~LOL~

Sorry, David! I am now just shaking my head at MYSELF! No wonder I had cats on the brain! DUH! You wrote, in the very first sentence no less, that he "fed his cats"! I'm going away now... :-\

No worries!

Cathy RE: Rhonda & Dave:
I was thinking maybe the old man could be feeding his cats some dog food and that the knock on the door could include the dog's handler. Might the old guy have some dementia as well? (p.s. I highly recommend the movie: "Remember" (action/drama) 2015 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3704050/
