Turn Your Life Inside Out

Dear Beautiful Souls,
Modern life subjects us to an endless onslaught of distractions. Social media, text messages, and news feeds continually demand our attention. We are in
the midst of a non ending wave of news and attention stealing circumstances. It’s difficult to have a focused, uninterrupted conversation or truly pay attention to our
surroundings. We live life from the outside in, reacting to what comes to us rather than acting from what is within us.
While we may think of ourselves as more connected than ever before, the truth is that we are increasingly disconnected. The root of the word “distract” is
“to draw apart” – and, indeed, all of this incoming information literally pull us away from what matters most. We lose touch with the reality of
life. We are drawn apart from our true nature, both in the sense of the natural world and in the sense of our individual and collective purpose
on this earth.
Today’s way of life tends to bombard the mind with stimulation until it is numb to its instinctive search for
purpose and for the Divine. We become passive participants, forgetting that we were brought here for a
reason that requires our active participation.
Rather than simply reacting to the pleasant or unpleasant distractions that are presented to us, we must choose to act from what is
within us. You can think of this as living from the inside out, not from the outside in. We are called on to return to our hearts, return to God, and embrace the precious gift of
existence. Our souls are hungry for connection with the Divine. To take our true place in the universe, we must seek God in all that we do.
There is no separation between the present moment and the Divine presence. Everything around you – every plant, every animal
– speaks the story of creation. We live and breathe within that larger spiritual realm. True alignment to the Divine takes place not in some other realm, but here and now,
in the natural environment and in our everyday life. It’s time to embrace the present moment and rejoin the reality that surrounds
us. That requires us to resist distraction and instead choose to pay attention. Your time, focus, and energy are your most precious
resources. It’s essential to be selective about how you use them. I invite you to reclaim your life by turning away from distractions and committing yourself to your
higher purpose.
We are by nature spiritual beings who long to express ourselves in this world. Each one of us has a unique purpose to serve. Every soul comes with a
figurative fingerprint, a blend of God-given gifts and talents. Every one of us is meant to add to the world in a way that no one else can. When we recognize our gifts, we express the
purpose imprinted within us by the Divine.
Prayer is a central component of a purposeful life aligned with the Divine. On a soul level, alignment is the delicate combined state of surrender and
prayer. In alignment, you move and act the same way the rest of God’s creations do, feeling secure because you are aware of the higher power that guides and cares for you. At the same
time, you are in a constant state of prayer, of personal communication with the Divine, to build and sustain connection.
Alignment means stepping into a sacred circle that only rotates with input from you and the Divine. In that circle, prayer is your input. At the same time, you are
allowing guidance and input from the Divine by wholeheartedly surrendering your actions and listening in. In this way, the Divine shapes your life with wisdom and grace.
Many of us think that prayer is asking for what we want, but it goes far beyond that. Your relationship with the Divine is not only about
receiving but also about giving. Every action you take is an opportunity to connect with and align to Source, and to express your purpose.
Here is a simple exercise to help you learn to act in prayer.
Sit down and take a few deep breaths. Let your soul expand within your body.
Find a place in your heart that feels open to life. Can you open it some more and become ready to give something to the world, in a
way that feels right to you?
Get in touch with your soul’s energy once more. Is there anything your soul wants to express? How would your soul prefer to
express it? List your answers.
What feelings came up for you as you did this exercise? And what actions could you take in the immediate future that would generate
these same feelings or help you overcome them if they were negative? It’s not the scale of the action that matters, but rather the consistent persistence that allows
for change to occur in your daily life.
When you are in a state of giving, acting in prayer, you live your life from the inside out. You
heed your soul’s eager call to connect with the Divine and then express its gifts. You share your uniqueness, your brilliance, and your light. I invite
you to look within and empower yourself by accepting the privilege of choosing your path. Your life is a precious gift that should not
be squandered in mindless distraction. Let this be your time to awaken and create a magnificent ripple spreads outward from your life to touch every
other life on the planet.
Action item: In what ways do you feel distracted and disconnected from
yourself and the world in which you live? What actions can you take to reconnect with your divine purpose and let your soul’s beauty
shine through? Try the exercise above and share your experience in the comments below.
