Is Writing Cool?

So, what do you think? When you're a teen, what is considered cool? I bet writing wouldn't be in the top ten list. I started a Writers' Club at our school a few years ago. It seemed important to do. After all, athletes have sports, musicians have band and choir, academics have science club, math club, academic teams, etc. Shouldn't writers have a place?

I know that it's not easy to tell others about what you enjoy doing, especially if it means being ridiculed. There's a movie -- Finding Forrester. It approaches this topic nicely. In any case, I think a good response to anyone who questions your passion might include these ... Stephen King, John Grisham, James Patterson, Jodi Piccault, Laurie Anderson, Alex Flinn, and the list goes on. Just throw a few of those names around. Being a writer can't be all bad, now can it?
