Sometimes Social Media Isn't Social

Sometimes social media isn’t socialIt’s divisive and cruelLies and opinions Like gasoline to fuel
No care for feelingsLives or hearts No fact check? They’d ratherThrow verbal darts
Sometimes social media isn’t social At allIt is pain-filled And painfulSimply Anti-social
Merely a toolTo humiliateInfiltrateUnderestimateAnd obliterateThe truth
Peeping toms, Peeping, then speaking,Things they know little aboutAs if they are the authorityIN ALL CAPSThat virtual SHOUT
SometimesSocial mediaDoesn’t helpGetting together at allIt forces separationPropagates Proliferation
But every now and thenA post will make me smile,or laughand celebrate the writer ofa poignant sentimentThank God,A brief respite,Heaven sent
I acknowledge thenIt is the scribe that isn’t socialAnd they don’t even know itNo apologies forthcomingNo retractionsJust heroics
No one saves the dayYet tomorrow, here we are againTo playAmong the thorns and roses
It’s the scribe that isn’t socialAnd they don’t even know itYet that innate need for socialDraws us back Into the fraySometimes social media isn’t socialBut we’re on itEvery day.
