Wait, what? Delivery fees? We pay delivery fees? Yes, indeed you do if you sell your e-book on Amazon at the 70% royalty rate. The rate varies but is commonly about $0.15 per megabyte. That fee is deducted from your 70% royalty.
Bloated delivery fees can result from the unnecessary baggage MS Word adds to the book file you upload to KDP. Many experienced authors know how to fix this issue, but if you don't, read on.
MS Word is probably one of the most common applications used to compose books. I also use Scrivener, but I have to export the manuscript to MS Word for editing. That becomes my final file format before I upload it to KDP. MS Word wants to be helpful, so it writes lots of tags in the file to assist presentation on screen. These tags can increase the document file size by as much as double and that bloats your delivery fee. You have to clean them out.
