Book covers

I'd love to know your thoughts.
It's a popular saying, "never judge a book by its cover".
But how many of you actually do?
What draws you to read it?
Is it the blurb?
A recommendation?
Top 40 at the time?
Or do you see a brilliant cover and dive in.
I have brought many books by seeing the cover alone and sometimes can be disappointed but often it works out.

Josephine (Jo) Hello Stuart,
I think that I often notice the cover of a book initially, if I am just browsing in a bookshop or online. That however is a very small indication as to whether or not I shall like it. The blurb is the most important thing, it tells me genre and often likens the author to other writers I may like. Although I am not sure if the likening of one book to another is something I take too seriousely as I have seen hundreds of books advertised as just like the Da Vinci Code and only a few make it. Is your book a supernatural story, a murder or psycological thriller type? (I am not sure from the blurb but the jacket suggests supernatural or horror).

Stuart James Hi Josephine.
Thanks so much for the reply.
I really enjoyed reading your view and insight and totally agree with the, (comparing books and authors to others). It rarely works out to be honest.
I have seen loads of books where they say, the new Stephen King or Dan Brown, but once you start reading, it's nothing like it.
I have also purchased books by the cover alone and it's been brill.
My book is a scary psychological thriller, but I wouldn't really class it as horror.
