“Symphony Amore” Author Interview: Sionna Fox
Today, I am delighted to introduce Sionna Fox. Her story in Symphony Amore: Erotic Stories of Love and Music is titled Etudes. This is an evocative and interesting story, one that I thoroughly enjoyed. She has been telling stories since she could talk. She is an avid romance fan and firmly believes the genre can save lives. She lives in New England with her very patient husband and a very put-upon dog.
Is this your first published story? Is this your first published story in a Sexy Little Pages anthology? This is my first published short story, and my first story published in a Sexy Little Pages anthology. I have two novellas out: one paranormal, one erotic romance.
How long have you been writing erotica? How and why did you start? I’ve been writing seriously for about three years, but I’ve been playing with storytelling my whole life. My primary focus is on writing erotic romance. I want the HEA! I started writing because I wasn’t finding the stories I wanted to read. Now that I’m part of the romance community, I’ve found more of those stories, but I’m still writing because you can never have too much love and hope in the world.
What inspired you to write this story? Etudes rose out of the ashes of my first, terrible attempt at writing a novel. Just goes to prove that no writing, however awful, is ever truly wasted. I refashioned the hero of that story into Natalie: professionally accomplished, but personally a mess lady-pianist of my dreams.
What were the most challenging and enjoyable aspects of writing it? I studied music through high school and college, but it’s been a while, so getting the language and details right took some work, though that was fun work. Keeping pronouns and body parts straight in an F/F story is always a challenge. You really have to think about the blocking and pronoun antecedents in every sentence.
Does your story fit into your body of work? My most recent novella is also set on a college campus, though both pieces kind of exist in their own worlds and don’t directly tie together in any way.
What is your favorite line from your story? “It wasn’t a date. It felt like a date. Like the best date she’d been on in years. But it wasn’t a date.”
Being as this is a collection about music, what is your favorite song or piece of music? I have…a lot of favorites. It all depends on context.
What can we expect from you in the near future? I’m working on finding a home for the not-terrible novel I did finish, and I have some more ideas for writing musicians. Etudes ends on a hopeful note, but I’d actually love to take Natalie and Esther all the way to their HEA.
