For me, writing is something I often do to relax. It takes me to another world, and I cannot wait to see where the characters and plot takes me next. But reality is, at times, a great escape, too!
Last weekend I spent some time in the Greenhorn Mountains, one of the locations my latest book, A Branch Too Weak, was set. I walked a portion of the Greenhorn Trail that is on my family's property, and wondered what the surroundings looked like 160 years ago. For a time I sat on some Indian rocks and marveled at the grooves in the granite that must have taken some time to make.
That time in the mountains was just what I needed to reinvigorate me and fill me with ideas I will incorporate into the second book of this series.
On a side note, if you are looking for something new to read, and you don't mind historical non-fiction, the eBook version of my book
Bootleggers, Booze, and Busts: Prohibition in Kern County, 1919-1933 is available as a free download from 9/29 - 10/1.
Have a great weekend!
