27 Lies

This is the sequel to the book I reviewed previously, 27 Truths.  It is told in alternating points of view, from both Ava and Luke.  I have to say that while the first book was good, this second one was worlds better.  It had the depth that the first one didn't.  I think the alternating points of view helped.  Ava can get a little annoying, and sometimes predictable.  Luke was a nice change because he's so different from her in the way he thinks and you get a little more context.  Both characters grow pretty realistically in this second novel, in the aftermath of Luke's injuries and the death of Ava's fiancé.  Of course, they both still acted like spoiled brats sometimes, and sometimes I wanted to smack Luke upside the head for some of the thoughts that went through his head in the earlier half of the book.  I also think that the fact that there was less of a focus on sex helped.  The first one had so much sex and sexual connotations that it got kind of boring, but this time Fields actually built the tension and didn't really get "hot and heavy" until the very last chapters of the book.  Overall, this was a vast improvement over the first novel.  In the end I'd definitely recommend both books if you're looking for an emotional, steamy, quick read.
