😱TWO-SENTENCE HORROR STORY😱

Goodreads asked Kevin Ansbro:
Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?

** MILLIE'S BIRTHDAY **

"That was easier than I thought it would be," chirped Millie Brady on the morning of her tenth birthday as she held her step-father's hand and waited for Mother to return home from the supermarket.
The scream that escaped Agnes Brady's throat didn't come at once: the first thing she noticed was a rare smile on her daughter's face; then she caught sight of the axe, the bloodied party dress and, lastly, the wedding ring on her husband's severed hand.

Leila WOW! 'Cringe and cringe again'

What a brilliant twist Kevin! It took a few seconds for what you were describing to sink in! Then the shuddering began.

My congratulations. I echo Maureen's one word comment...'Eeeek'

I could never achieve this...why? Because I talk too much! LOL.

Thank you for reading this, Leila (and for the kind words)!
It's difficult to create a story within two sentences, but it's the things I've alluded to that puts meat on its bones. Readers will naturally fill in the missing gaps for themselves...
; )

Maureen Turner I saw this two sentence horror story post but didn't participate because I thought it impossible. You, Kevin, have proved me wrong. Well done.

Leila - I liked your comment about talking too much. This is clearly a 'girlie' thing.

Thank you, Will. Though it was impromptu and not written with the care and consideration that your Halloween tale was!
I appreciate your taking the time to read it.

Hi Maureen. Apatt was sent from Thailand to be schooled in our fair isles but, in addition to being extremely clever (and having an encyclopaedic knowledge of sci-fi), he has fallen under the bad influence of our pop/TV culture. : )

message 26: by Cecily (new)

Cecily I liked and commented on this days ago, but both have gone. Never mind. I still like it - even though it reveals a hitherto hidden dark side.

Kev is like a two-tone ice cream 🤣

message 28: by Cecily (new)

Mmmm. Apatt, my wife, and I discovered a lovely ice cream/dessert café in a mall in Bangkok.
I wish I was there now. : (

So kind of you to say.
I couldn't resist the challenge of trying to make a meal with the merest of scraps, though I'd rather they asked for a short story of 1,000 words or less.
Thanks, Fran! : )

Kevin Ansbro Nat wrote: "Nice one Kevin. The two-sentence-story is kind of like "haiku", but with a twist (ewwww,,,,)."

Aww, thanks, Nat.
I wanted to add a comment to your review of The Tsar of Love and Techno, but wasn't able. Great book, despite the dreadful cover! : )

message 36: by Nat (new)

Nat K It just goes to show you shouldn't judge a book by its cover (though I have to admit to being drawn to a book for exactly this reason). It was quite a magnificent story wasn't it. It had it all, pathos, dark humour and a glimmer of hope amongst it all.

message 37: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Ansbro It was an amazing read, Nat: one that I would never have taken on, were it not for this excellent review by Goodreads friend, Matthew Quann: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 38: by Nat (new)

Nat K Ah yes, agree with you there Kevin. There are several books that I've read recently purely on the amazing, heartfelt review that caught my attention on GR. You just never know who you're reaching out to.
