An Introvert's Worst Nightmare
An introvert: a hermit-ish person who prefers to stay in the safety of her shell. Or, me, Jessica Berg. This mindset tends to be problematic as the world generally revolves around extroverts, a very rare and wild breed of person often seen as crazy and bubbly to us shell-dwellers. My tendency to want to stay in and read a good book, snuggle under a backwards robe (aka Snuggie), and drink tea conflicts with my job, my family, and life in general.
One would think being an author is an introvert’s paradise. It is … until the author has to come out from her writer’s hidey-hole and interact with (gasp) people. I recently emerged from my fort of solitude and safety and participated in a local Midwest craft fair, the Sioux Empire Arts and Crafts Show, where hundreds of people showcased their handmade works of love.
Even though nerves pricked my skin and I felt strangely like crying before the event, I tackled it head on and came out on the other side with one conclusion: I LOVED it! I met so many people and interacted with soon-to-be readers and those who had already read and loved A Place to Call Home.
I celebrated this by going home and demanding two hours to myself, a bath, and a glass of wine…or two! An introvert gal has to know how to recharge because I’m ready for another event so I can get to know my readers.
