INSTITUTE FOR EDUCATION, RESEARCH & SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS RENEE TOPPER HONORABLE MENTION IN 1ST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL WRITERS AWARD
Los Angeles, CA – Friday, December 1, 2017 – Today, The Institute for Education, Research, and Scholarships (IFERS) announced the winners of its 1st Annual International Writers Award, naming Renee Topper winner of an honorable mention for her debut novel PIGMENT: The Limbs of the Mukuyu Tree, Book 1 in the series.
PIGMENT is a fictional mystery thriller that explores the very real plight of people who are hunted because they are albino in Africa. The novel employs the theme of dissociation as the source underlying racism, human-trafficking, and corporate profiteering.
IFERS’s esteemed eight-judge panel is gender-balanced, diverse, and each member is an experienced writer. Upon receiving the news, Topper said, “I’m very grateful. This award means a lot to me and for my company Story Matter because it’s from IFERS. I strive to tell stories that shine a light on root causes. What’s underneath the surface issues? I prefer to dive deep, into that darkness, that’s where the light is needed most if we are going to understand and better our world. Our missions align.”
IFERS is made up of volunteers who believe in changing the world for the better through education, research, and scholarships. Their ultimate goal is to create a better world with lasting peace, posterity, and universal rights for all.
The announcement comes a mere two days before the release of Topper’s much anticipated second novel, SUNSET BLUES: The Shadow – Justice is Relative, Book 1. The series is a love-letter to the city of angels, to noir, to detective thrillers on screen and in the pages of the classics. It also explores diversity in the city, her public servants, her enemies, a mixed family, and human trafficking. The latter of which is on the rise in California and around the globe.
PIGMENT Book 1 is also the winner of the LYRA Award for Fiction: Mystery / Suspense / Thriller by Books Without Borders and placed as an International Book Awards Finalist in Fiction: Cross-Genre Category. PIGMENT: Roots Book 2 is to be released in 2018.
