Sling-not

A cyclist approaches the red light, slows down and checks out the intersection of Dundas West and Montrose. It’s a sleepy spot at the top of Trinity-Bellwoods Park. Spying no traffic, the rider passes on my left and speeds through the danger zone. I stay put at the curb, shaking my head. There are so many reasons why that’s not a good idea. When the light turns green, I pedal forward with a burst of energy; I don’t want to be late for work. But the next set of lights are also red. Bad luck. Ahead, cars are whizzing back and forth. And then I notice the same cyclist stopped in front of me, and I smile in sweet vindication.
