Writing Milestones
Hello my Writing Warriors!
Tonight I pause to reflect on my journey as a writer. I believe it is important to celebrate your successes in writing and in life. Yesterday I passed another milestone in my writing career. I published my YA Novel Blackstone on Amazon.

I decided to self publish over traditional publishing because for my Blackstone Series I felt that it was the best move. I wanted to get my work out in the world and have the marketplace decide on the merits of my work. I wanted to build a relationship with my readers directly.
I’ve talked before about speed and how it is important to write fast as an Indie Author. Next year, I plan on publishing two more Blackstone novels on Amazon. If I went with a traditional publisher, I would still be waiting on the first novel to come out because it takes years to publish in the traditional manner. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not knocking traditional publishing. I would love to have my work in a bookstore. I would love to work with a team of publishing professionals and know that I am in good hands, but for right now I am embracing the Indie Author road and concentrating on building my platform. If a traditional publishing deal comes along after I’ve sold some books as an Indie Author then I will take it if it is the right fit.
Looking back on this year, I had some success as a writer. My short story “Can I Tell You” won a writing contest on Wattpad, and I was recognized by the novelist Jay Asher on Twitter for my work. I published my first novel on Amazon. All in all, I would say that 2017 was a step forward on my journey as a writer. I look forward to 2018 with much anticipation.
What about you my writing warriors? What successes did you have as a writer this year? Let me know in the comments.
Until Next Time!
