Where do you get your ideas?

As an author, the most frequent question I'm asked is where I get my story ideas from.  My usual response is that coming up with ideas is easy…finding time to write is the hard part.

But seriously, most of the time I'll hear something that happened in the news and ask "what if?".  What if this happened instead of that?   Other times, ideas will just pop into my head, like in the case of my second book, Romance by the Book, where the herione falls in love with the hero in her favoite romance novel and one day a man just like him walks into her office…and wouldn't we all love for that to happen.  :)

But the inspiration for my lastest release, Prescription for Love, was  little closer to home.  Back when I was in high school, my brother, who was 19-years-old worked as a delivery boy for a pharmacy and started dating the pharmacist, who was 27-years-old.  They got married four years later and had three children.

For twenty years, I thought my brother and sister-in-law's story would make a great book.  It took me a while, but I finally wrote a novella based on their story.  Prescription for Love was released last month by Phaze Books.

Keep in mind that the only thing remotely related to my brother and sister-in-law are the following facts:

The heroine is a pharmacist and hero is the delivery boy at her pharmacy
The heronie is older than the hero
The age difference is at first an issue for the heroine
They live in Scranton, PA

Other than that, the details of Prescription for Love are a figment of my imagination.  Since I write spicy romance, it would be a little strange if that wasn't the case.  :)

So tell me…where do you get your ideas from?
