Valentine’s Flair - Templet’s Tasty Tails
♥ The Skeptical Surrogate and Bayou Cowboy have another Goodreads 5 Stars Reader Rating!♥
Scene: Booker visits his son and Erika on Valentine’s Day.
Erika heard a symphony in her head the moment she opened her front door. Booker stood in the yellow porch light against a curtain of pouring rain. Even so, his smile was pure sunshine to her heart.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Erika." He closed his umbrella and stamped excess water from his boots.
"Happy Valentine's to you, Booker."
"May I?" Booker never failed to signal his intent.
"Louisiana's freaky weather is at it again." Erika moved backward. "The drive over had to be horrendous in this storm."
"But, worth every minute of it to see Brice…and his mommy."
"He's eager to see you, too." Smiling, she closed the door behind him.
Lightning flashed, brightening the sheers at the window. Thunderclaps vibrated in the air.
Booker walked through the living room. "Aren't you coming?"
"Naw." Erika returned to her workstation in the corner. "The draft for a new client is due tomorrow."
He rooted in the nursery's doorway. "How is business?"
"Going well. Thank you very much." She looked down the hall at him. "And yours?"
"I have a great incentive for the hard work and effort it takes to turn a profit." Booker pulled at his ear. "Making sure Brice has a solid legacy is of utmost importance."
"Brice will love his father with or without a legacy." Erika freed Booker to go to Brice when she resumed her work.
"It amazes me how fast he's grown," he called from the nursery.
"You know he's five months now."
Gurgles turned Erika in her seat. The look on Booker's face spellbound her. He always seemed in disbelief when he gazed on his son. With Brice riding backward on his forearm, Booker exemplified his expertise. Brice drooled on his fist.
"Mind company?"
"I don't mind at all."
Booker sat on the sofa. His arm locked Brice in place on his lap.
"Hey, mommy's baby." Erika’s maternal sensibilities controlled her. She glided across the room and got comfortable next to Booker. For a better view, she angled her body, and then bent her knee upon the cushion.
Brice clutched Booker's finger. The attraction was too much for Booker to resist. He yielded to temptation. Reverently, he placed his lips on the mold of Brice's head. Outside, the storm intensified, but Erika saw Booker enclose Brice in a cocoon of safety.
