The books I love to read.

I like to read widely rather in one genre, but I'm always trying to catch up with classics that I've never read before, not simply recently published books.

That said, I love historical novels. Novels by Helen Dunmore, John Boyne, Tracy Chevalier, Margaret Attwood and Sebastian Barry are amongst recent favourites. I also enjoy Tracy Rees, Elizabeth Buchan and Elizabeth Fremantle, and many more.

Kathleen I have been trying to catch up on classics I missed lately too! I used to read primarily historical fiction but thank my book club for helping me expand into other genres. So many good books!

Rachel Hore Yes, a book club can be invaluable, especially for making you read books that you wouldn't normally have chosen. I came to Jon Ronson's The Psychopath Test that way and have since read several of his books. One book club choice was East Lynne by the Victorian novelist Ellen Wood, which was interesting because of the then contemporary plight of the divorced woman. I'd never have got round to reading that without my book club.

Kathleen I agree! I have stepped out of my "comfort reading box" since being in mine. I haven't read either of the books you referenced but I looked up 'East Lynne' and it looks really interesting! Going on my wtr list! 'Orange is the New Black' and 'Unbroken' are two I probably wouldn't have picked up on my own but I enjoyed them both.

Rachel Hore I haven't read either of those yet!
