FOR those charged with the rare serious offense in Nubia, the news that they were to appear before Minister Yanzee was heart-quickening. None had ever accused her of being unfair, yet all knew that her reputation of being calculatingly no-nonsense was well warranted.

The lower courts reported any serious cases to do with theft, property disputes, demands for recompense, or family matters; she determined which if any were worthy of the attention of the Royal Court.
